AUCKLAND, Wedneday: Almost half a million people tuned in for the latest documentary in Newshub journalist Patrick Gower’s series, Patrick Gower: On P (made with support from NZ On Air).
258,694 viewers in the 25-54 demographic tuned in across the country for the one-hour doco, making this the most watched local programme on Three this year. The broadcast reached 486,442 individuals in total.
This was the fifth documentary in the Patrick Gower: On series, with this week’s documentary delving deep into the world of methamphetamine or ‘P’ in New Zealand.
“These numbers show that people really care.”
Gower, who recently took out the Voyager Journalism Award for Social Issues, said: “I am really, really stoked. I am just so happy that Kiwis got around their screens to learn about what this evil drug methamphetamine is doing to Aotearoa New Zealand.
“These numbers show that people really care.”
M+AD reckons many viewers were drawn in by the title, which gave a strong (but erroneous) hint that Gower himself had been hooked.
