A working holiday: The PR job of the future

Has working through a pandemic given you the ick and left you searching for your next career match? Thrive PR + Communications is offering talented PR practitioners exciting opportunities to shape their own career paths in Australia, with full support when first arriving, and a streamlined pathway back to Aotearoa.

In a post-Covid world, Australasia’s leading communications agency Thrive PR has created two unique PR roles, from Account Director to Group Account Director level, which pilot a new way of working. A Trans-Tasman experience where successful senior candidates will split their time across three or more of Thrive’s office locations – think Sydney, Melbourne, Queensland, WA – and elevate their professional experience working with global brands and brilliant talent across multiple markets (all while exploring incredible Australia and all it has to offer).

Thrive PR has been at the top of the PR game for more than 20 years and is one of the largest independent agencies across AU and NZ. Born in Melbourne, ahead in Sydney, thriving in Brisbane, Auckland and on the Gold Coast, the communications agency has five offices and an alliance in Perth.

Fiercely independent and female-founded, run and owned, Thrive PR is renowned for accelerating start-ups and representing established brands who are transforming their industries like; LEGO, TikTok, supermarket giant Coles, telco heavyweight Optus, tech innovator Cisco, energy provider AGL, global gaming developer Ubisoft and big bank, ANZ.

It’s this drive for success, led by the company mantra “limited by nothing”, that’s helped shape a flexible, technology-led working environment for the agency’s staff.

Managing Director, Leilani Abels, says that it’s her goal to continue to provide the best working environment for her team, collaborating with inspiring leaders and ambitious brands with a commitment to innovating, growing and championing change.

“Now more than ever before is a time to innovate, not only for our clients, but for our teams and how we redefine the industry as one in which people flock to rather than decide to opt out. On the talent recruitment front the days of “We are Hiring” social posts are just not going to cut it. That innovation thread needs to entwine from initial engagement to how we deliver workplaces that truly put the wellness of our people front and centre,” says Abels.

Thrive PR consultants have the chance to spearhead game-changing campaigns with impressive brands across the network. Ashleigh McEnaney is a Senior Account Director at the agency since the beginning of November 2021, and has found the environment incredibly forward-thinking with which presents new and innovative ways of working.

“Since starting, I’ve been so impressed with Thrive’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of traditional PR, delivering work that consistently drives results for our clients but is also unique to the market and doesn’t just opt for a cookie cutter approach. We have such a talented team and a fantastic roster of clients that make the work inspiring and fun – I’m stoked to be part of it,” she says.

These two roles have been created to give Thrive PR future resources to capitalise on the many Kiwis who have had OE plans put on hold and are looking at overseas opportunities when the borders open.

“As a new starter right in the throes of Auckland’s recent lockdown and in the months since, something that has been abundantly clear is the flexibility that Thrive offers, from workplace to hours to how you structure your day – especially with balancing my job and family. The trust Thrive has in its team to work however suits whilst still delivering quality work for our clients is really empowering and has proven to be so important, and particularly so in a Covid environment. As a team, we’re collaborative, creative and not afraid to think big. I’m proud to be a Thriver,” says McEnaney.

This experience is limited by nothing, with 2022 signalling a new era of working with no bounds or borders. “If anything has become apparent as a result of the pandemic, it’s that brands have needed the counsel of PR practitioners to navigate and communicate the changes and challenges of their businesses like never before. What was the unknown is now an opportunity to redefine the way PR supports its clients and brands, making it an extremely exciting time to be part of the industry.

“We are seeing the comms industry innovating and growing like never before, and we want Thrive at the forefront of that change – with these roles attracting and opening doors for new talent to be a part of our exhilarating growth journey,” adds Abels.

If you’re seeking a no-strings-attached senior PR role that offers fame, fortune, fun and adventure – whether it be for six months, a year or two years across the ditch and opportunity develop your career ahead of a return to New Zealand – then Thrive PR is the one you’re looking for.
