Are you a senior level Director / DOP looking for a new permanent role? This role is to concept and capture content for our client, who is one of New Zealand’s largest townhouse and apartment developers located in South Auckland.
They are passionate about connecting people with property. From fundraising and land acquisition through to marketing, construction, investment, and property management, they offer a full 360 property service whether you are first home buyer, or an investor. They have also recently expanded to include Health Clubs, which focuses on enriching lives through health and wellbeing.
This role will be within the Marketing Team, with direct contact to other group divisions, with the aim to achieve the best possible creative output. You will work with minimum supervision and possess passion for your skill and be proactive with ideas and solutions that will make the work better. You will be in charge of your daily workflow and input will be crucial, allowing you to self-manage your day and be held accountable for tasks to be completed. They shoot for a range of outputs, including websites, social, presentations and soon TVC’s/TV.
As part of the Marketing Department video team, you will be creating engaging content across multiple platforms in an exciting sector. Storytelling comes naturally to you, and you have a natural ability in directing a shoot and be able to deliver the narrative in a well-executed reel. Our client is looking for a visually creative candidate with expertise in camera work and lighting equipment. You are responsible for ordering and testing camera and lighting equipment, supervising a camera and crew when required to scale up on large productions, and editing a reel’s visual elements in post-production.
You will be able to concept straight to shooting – this is a fast-paced environment and you will soon get into a rhythm. Being able to think on the spot and be solutions focused is key as every day is different. Getting the best out of people and knowing how to shoot them at the appropriate angles is also key.
You must be able to understand briefs and work creatively to produce the desired product. You stay up to date with industry trends and tools that will make projects more marketable and memorable.
You will have a junior and intermediate in the team as well and need to oversee and help develop their skills. You will work closely with and support the Marketing Team with a variety of marketing-related activities. You will also collaborate with key stakeholders across the business from the CEO to sales and more.
DOP Responsibilities:
- Film videos on set or on location
- Developing a film’s visual style
- Determining lighting requirements on set
- Deciding on the best camera angles and frames for scenes
- Renting and testing lighting and camera equipment
- Supervising a camera crew (internal and external if required) and directing camera movement
- Selecting the appropriate film stock
- Controlling natural or artificial lighting conditions, determining camera aperture settings
- Determining elements such as filters, shutter angles, focus, depth of field and camera distance
- Editing visual elements in post-production
- Plan the shoot with marketing team and or internal stakeholders
- Planning and filming live events, short reels, and content – coordinating and assisting small production shoots, and promotional campaigns videos
- Admin in saving files as per studio guidelines and implementing best industry practice
- Ensuring all filming equipment is ready and in proper working order
- Understanding client briefs, offering creative feedback, and providing an estimated filming timeframe
- Discussing ideas with the Creative team prior to filming
- Ensuring filming in proper lighting and audio clarity with correct lens choice
- Providing creative direction when inserting captions, graphics, special effects, and video texts, especially for advertising products
- Troubleshooting minor technical issues with the video camera
- Ensuring consistency in filming from start to finish
- Maintaining and updating equipment inventory
DOP Requirements:
- Degree or Certificate in Videography, Cinematography, art, or photography is advantageous
- A reel of visual work
- Creative visual thinking
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail
- Good organizational skills
- Good technical camera operating skills
- Proficiency with camera equipment
- Degree or diploma in any subject
- A certificate course in Videography or Cinematography is preferred
- Proficiency in video editing software like After Effects, Lumen5, and Premiere Pro
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of different motion picture techniques
- Eye for detail and typography
- Ability to work in a team and in extreme weather conditions and under pressure
- Excellent analytical skills
What is the work like?
You will be responsible for shooting and editing footage and work to tight deadlines, working on multiple projects at any given time. Creative input and generating ideas around how our client can increase their presence in the markets they are in. Be inquisitive and not afraid to challenge the expected to land on the winning solution! Accuracy is essential.
