Dementia NZ and Quantum Jump celebrate those living with dementia

Dementia NZ’s new awareness campaign via Quantum Jump, ‘I’m still me’, shows that people living with dementia can still lead a full life.

The ad was created to accompany the new TV show, The Restaurant That Makes Mistakes, which premiered on TV1 last night. The show gives people living with dementia the chance to work in a restaurant alongside celebrity chef Ben Bayley. The TVC needed to align with this and focus on the person, not their diagnosis. Dementia NZ tasked Quantum Jump with capitalising on the audience’s increased awareness of dementia.

So often Dementia is seen as something to be feared and at times it can feel like a loved one is disappearing. Quantum Jump set out to highlight the special moments that shine through. After all, as Dementia Auckland’s Clinical Lead Rhonda Preston-Jones put it “Underneath the dementia is the person, the person is still there.”

Dementia NZ National Marketing Manager Gary O’Neill says: “As Kiwis watch the show, they may recognise mannerisms their loved ones share. We needed an ad that reassured that Dementia NZ is here to support people and their loved one. Quantum Jump and the team really nailed this. We’re also extremely grateful to the cast and crew that generously donated their time for this, we couldn’t have done it without them.”

Ben Goodale CEO of Quantum Jump says: “This is a sensitive story that deserves to be told well. The fact that four out of five Kiwis know or have known someone living with dementia is what brought the incredible team behind the TVC together. Whether it was a mother, brother or friend, just about everyone on the team had a connection. These perspectives meant we were able to strike a chord through storytelling. The team have created a beautiful, moving and memorable piece of work that we hope will connect with the audience and help Dementia NZ continue to support people living with dementia.”
