Official Aotearoa Music Charts (formerly The Official NZ Charts) has celebrated Aotearoa’s top singles and albums since 1975. Published weekly by Recorded Music NZ, it’s a reflection of our diverse musical landscape.
The brand name change and refresh is an acknowledgement of Māori as tangata whenua of Aotearoa, and reflects the incredible contribution of Māori artists and waiata to the recorded music landscape.
“I am delighted that we are renaming the Charts to recognise te reo Māori as the first language of Aotearoa and to reflect the incredible contribution of Māori artists and waiata to our rich musical culture,” says Recorded Music CEO Jo Oliver. “We look forward to amplifying the journey of Aotearoa artists through the new website and social assets.”
In an ongoing relationship with Daylight, the refresh preserves the brand’s legacy while making it more relevant for today’s audiences.
“For nearly half a century, the Official Music Charts has been the go-to resource for measuring audience success according to objective metrics that are recognised globally – as well as keeping up with the latest music trends,” says Recorded Music Director of Data & Analysis Paul Kennedy. “We are excited to open up that history to the fans, the artists and the industry with a suite of new and improved tools and a fresh coat of digital paint.”
The new website offers an intuitive, user-friendly experience that allows visitors to dive deep into Charts history while discovering the latest music. It has all been rebuilt with artists in mind, allowing them to seamlessly share their position on the Charts with fans.
Says Lizzie Robson, Managing Partner at Daylight, “We feel really privileged to be entrusted with this rebuild. Our team are true music lovers, and we know just how important the industry is to Aotearoa. This platform will continue to shape culture for the next 50 years and beyond.”
The new brand for Official Aotearoa Music Charts is the second brand and site refresh from Daylight, following the successful redesign of the Aotearoa Music Awards.
