Uber Eats gets Rachel Hunter on board for Reach the Beach campaign

Uber Eats has launched Reach the Beach. It’s a limited-time initiative designed to help Kiwis summon forgotten summer essentials to the sand.

Between February 14 and February 15, Uber Eats will help locals get almost, almost anything delivered to select city beaches.

The initiative was inspired by research showing 79% of Kiwis love the beach, but have trouble packing for the trip.

Over half of those surveyed (52%) had left food and drinks at home because carrying them was too much hassle. Meanwhile, nearly two-thirds (64%) have had a snack or beach essentials ‘emergency’. One in six people (17%) would rather go hungry than leave their perfect beach spot.

Rachel Hunter: beach icon

Enter local beach icon and former supermodel Rachel Hunter. She is back on home sand as the official ambassador of the Reach the Beach initiative.

“Some of the biggest moments of my life have happened at the beach – from being scouted on Milford Beach to shooting a Sports Illustrated cover on the sand,” says Hunter.

“For me, the outdoor Kiwi lifestyle is all about enjoying moments with family and friends and making the most of our country’s stunning beaches. It’s great to know that even with busy lives, when we finally make it to the beach and realise we’ve forgotten an essential – whether it’s a snack, a magazine, some sunscreen or a mid-day ice block – there’s no need to worry. That’s the beauty of Uber Eats delivering right to the sand.”

$ 0 delivery fee

Throughout the weekend, Uber Eats will also offer a $ 0 delivery fee on orders over $ 20 (excluding service fees) from participating stores. This will see goodies arriving at select city beaches in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch, as well as a host of towns with recognised “beaches” across New Zealand.

“We’ve all had those moments – running out of snacks, forgetting the bottled water, or not wanting to leave the sand for a milkshake. With extended delivery areas to take in sandy city locations and $ 0 Delivery Fees on orders over $ 20 from participating stores at key central beaches across Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, and in a host of coastal towns this weekend, all you’ll have to worry about this Valentine’s weekend is getting yourself to the beach and making sure any packaging is popped in the bin or taken home with you,” says General Manager of Uber Eats New Zealand Andy Bowie.

Rachel Hunter plans to visit Mission Bay, Auckland, on Saturday 15 February – weather permitting! She’ll be dropping off summer essentials available on the Uber Eats platform to beachgoers.

T&Cs apply to the offer. The research was conducted by Stickybeak Limited between 29 and 31 January 2025. The sample comprised 600 New Zealanders over the age of 18.
