The recent Nielsen Q3 2023 findings have revealed a notable surge in readership for Are Media New Zealand publications, alongside a positive uptick for SCG’s dish magazine.

Leading the charge is The Australian Women’s Weekly NZ Edition, which now boasts a readership of 477,000 people each month. Following closely behind is Kia Ora, experiencing a leap in readership, with 414,000 readers, marking a 54 percent increase YoY. These two publications have secured the top spots as the most-read monthly magazines in New Zealand.

The weekly magazine market has also witnessed substantial growth, with Woman’s Day climbing to the second spot for the most-read weekly magazine, attracting 373,000 readers with each issue. Meanwhile, the New Zealand Woman’s Weekly continues to maintain its stronghold as the number one weekly magazine, with 459,000 readers consistently every single week.

Stuart Dick, the General Manager of Are Media NZ, is pleased with the publications’ ability to reach a crucial demographic.

“Particularly pleasing is the strength in reaching the key Primary Household Shopper demographic with Woman’s Day, New Zealand Woman’s Weekly, and The Australian Women’s Weekly NZ Edition now read by a combined 790,000 Primary Household Shoppers in New Zealand.”

Sarah Tuck, the Editorial Director of Lifestyle at SCG Media, says she is equally delighted with dish magazine’s 15 percent increase in readership YOY which comes on top of the previous years +17.6 percent result.

“The dish readership increase +35 percent over the last two years is fantastic! We constantly track our retail sales and subscriptions, and it is great to see the readership numbers slowly start to reflect the sales success that we’ve been enjoying.”

Meanwhile the current issue of dish is enjoying the best first week’s sales since records began, creating cause for much celebration among the dish team.

“We put so much planning behind our special Christmas Collector’s Edition it is incredibly satisfying to see the strategy and hard work pay off!”
