AUCKLAND, Today: There’s been scenes of jubilation at MediaWorks/TV3 in Flower St since the announcement the troubled NZ company has been bought by US media giant Discovery, according to NZ Herald reporter Matt Nippert.
“It’s a massive celebration for everyone at TV,” one staffer told Nippert.
“People haven’t been so happy in years, because what we believe in – and what we fight for – now has a future.”
“We’re making a bet on New Zealand, with our eyes wide open.”
The sentiment was echoed by MediaWorks ceo Michael Anderson: “It’s pretty amazing,” he said.
Both companies said the deal was expected to be finalised later in the year and required Overseas Investment Office approval, and applications for this process had already been filed.
“We’re making a bet on New Zealand, with our eyes wide open,” Discovery’s New York-based APAC president Simon Robinson said.
