Broadcaster Oriini Kaipara has been welcomed by Newshub to its lineup of presenters as host of Newshub Live at 4.30PM, joined by Mitch McCann as presenter of Newshub Live at 11.30AM.
Kaipara has a journalism career spanning close to two decades and comprehensive experience reporting on Māori affairs.
McCann has been permanently appointed after filling in for several months. An experienced reporter and presenter having been with Newshub for over five years, McCann has covered a number of significant international and domestic stories.
Newshub Senior Director of News, Sarah Bristow, says: “I couldn’t be happier to introduce both of these seasoned journalists to our audience as anchors and reporters on a permanent basis. I have long admired Oriini for her mahi and know she will be a tremendous addition to our reporting and presenting team at Newshub, adding her valued expertise in covering Kaupapa Māori issues.
“Mitch also has my utmost respect as a journalist who has fronted Newshub’s special coverage for some of the most challenging stories of our time, he is one of New Zealand’s most exciting up and coming broadcasters.”
Kaipara says: “I am thrilled to be joining Discovery and starting a new journey with the Newshub whānau and I look forward to leading effective and positive change where Māori issues and interests are respectfully conveyed and relayed on our platforms – where our voices and stories are told fairly, accurately, and objectively.
“I do not take this challenge lightly and trust that the mana of my people remains with me as I take on this new journey for all of us.”
McCann adds: “I’m excited to join Newshub’s presenting lineup on a permanent basis and to be part of a strong team of respected award-winning journalists fronting our bulletins.”
