AUCKLAND, Thursday: Most monthlies recorded small readership increases in the latest Nielsen survey period (Q4 20 – Q1 21). Avenues, Deals On Wheels, Motorhomes, NZ Gardener, Lifestyle Block, Horse & Pony, Reader’s Digest, and House & Garden were up.
A surprising exception was Mindfood (170,000 readers, down from 178,000).
There was just one weekly in the survey – TV Guide – up to 334,00 (from 305).
In the monthlies category, seven titles posted gains, including Avenues, Deals On Wheels/Farm Trader, Reader’s Digest, Motorhomes, NZ Gardener, Lifestyle Block, Horse & Pony, and House & Garden.
But Mindfood was a surprise exception among the monthlies, dropping from 178,000 to 170,000.
Five of the six titles in the bi-monthly category recorded rises – Abode, Cuisine, Dish, Good, Homestyle, NZ Geographic, and NZ Life & Leisure.
All four titles in the quarterly division were up – AA Directions, Family Ties, OhBaby and Hunting & Fishing NZ.
The Bauer effect
Nielsen also included a special six-month count for titles affected by the Bauer closure (including The Listener, Woman’s Day, Home NZ, NZ Woman’s Weekly, and the Australian Women’s Weekly NZ).
