Indie agency Republik has partnered with Breast Cancer Cure (BCC) to develop a campaign to raise money for breast cancer research in New Zealand.
Republik came up with the campaign, developed creative as well as media planning and placement. It kicked off on Monday and it runs through to the end of November- It’s got off to a great start! Public relations is being managed by Impact PR.
BCC is a charity who provide essential funding to breast cancer research. This provides freedom to further investigate cutting edge and breakthrough technology. Since 1997, BCC has funded almost $ 11 million of research in NZ. It’s only through research that we’ll find a cure to protect the next generation of New Zealanders, so they can look forward to a future free from the fear of this disease.
BCC’s Marketing Manager, Amber Henderson says: “New Zealand actually has one of the highest rates of breast cancer in the world, with one woman being diagnosed every 3 hours. Not forgetting our Kiwi men either, as one in 10 will lose a mother, wife, sister or even daughter to breast cancer in their lifetime. Every day, two woman will pass away from Breast Cancer in New Zealand. Horrifying statistics I know, but sadly true.”
The campaign, Breast Friends Forever (BFF) is driven through social channels led by a curated influencer calendar and supported by above the line media that has been generously donated to the cause by a range of local suppliers (thank you!) plus of course the fantastic PR support from Fleur and Mark at Impact PR.
Republik’s Head of Digital, Matt Lyne says: “We knew with a limited budget, we needed to find a way to get organic traction and growth, so the team centred it around a “social responsibility” challenge – It’s super easy to get involved… Simply text BFF to 5338 to donate $ 3 to Breast Cancer Cure. Take a screenshot of your text donation and chuck it up on your social media story, tag 3 friends to step up to the challenge and make them socially responsible to respond and repeat the process and you’re done! It all starts with one, but exponentially grows as you pass it on. All it takes is 3 seconds to donate. $ 3 to give and keep the donation train going, 3 breast friends tagged to step up to the challenge. You’ve got to do your part in keeping future generations safe from Breast Cancer with cutting edge research, and this make it easy, accessible and has no room for excuses!”
Republik Director, Paul McNamara adds: “I bumped into Amber on Takapuna Beach while in lockdown and she was telling me about all BCC’s fund-raising events that couldn’t go ahead because of Covid, so we were pretty keen to help out. This is such a great cause and one that’s close to home for a lot of us, so it was a no brainer.”
