Changing of the guard at NBR

AUCKLAND, Today: After taking on the editorial leadership of the National Business Review on a temporary basis three years ago, co-editors Tim Hunter and Fiona Rotherham announced that Hamish McNicol and Calida Stuart-Menteath will take over as co-editors next week.

“NBR is in good hands with Hamish and Calida. Their track record at the forefront of business journalism is outstanding and it will be exciting to see how they develop the title.”

McNicol rejoined NBR in 2020 after three years working in London, most recently as corporate counsel editor at leading legal industry publication Legal Business, covering in-house, private practice, and legal technology and innovation.

“By standing aside now, we can better prepare NBR for the future.”

Stuart-Menteath, one of NBR’s longest-serving editorial staff, is also a returnee, this time from maternity leave.

NBR: “Her reporting has won multiple awards for excellence and in 2021 she was named New Zealand journalist of the year at the Citi Journalism awards, adding to her 2019 Voyager award for Business Journalist of the Year.”

Hunter said a primary motivator in handing over the reins was ensuring there were opportunities for younger talent to develop.

“It was important to Fiona and me that there was a pathway for members of our team to take on more responsibility and show what they can do.

“By standing aside now, we can better prepare NBR for the future.”

Hunter and Rotherham will remain on staff as senior journalists and will play an ongoing role on NBR’s editorial advisory panel.
