Auckland Council has hit the streets and screens of Tāmaki Makaurau with a new campaign via Daylight, encouraging passionate locals to take their shot at becoming an elected member in the local body elections.
The ‘Can you Candidate? You Can’ campaign was created to encourage a wider spectrum of Tāmaki Makaurau residents to stand for mayor, and their local boards and wards, speaking directly to the barriers that have hindered those from standing in previous elections.
“Our city is shaped by the voices that represent us. So attracting a diverse collection of candidates to run in this year’s election is key to building a thriving future for this place we call home, says Angela Meyer, Head of Marketing, Core Services and Engagement.
Charlie Godinet, Daylight Creative Director, says standing is actually simpler than people expect.
“You just need to meet three simple criteria: being over 18, a New Zealand citizen (or permanent resident) and caring about the future of our city, which sits at the core of this idea.”
Photographed by Lula Cucchiara, the vibrant visuals are paired with an enduring design system that will carry the campaign through both multiple phases and election years.
The campaign is now live across social, digital, radio and print and is the first in a two-flight project, which pivots to speak directly to voters come September 2022.
