SYDNEY, Wednesday: Pablo Ferrari, ECD at BBDO Mexico, has judged Special NZ’s Kathmandu Summer Never Sleeps as last week’s best TV ad in the world.
“I love its old vibes craft and the storytelling. I find it a bizarrely funny story; in a journey from day to night, a group of friends shows us that in summer, anything goes,” he wrote on the Bestadsontv site.
“The music is a real find – a song from Brazil from the ’70s that makes the spot even more memorable.”
The music supervision was the work of Karyn Rachtman, an American who spent much of her life growing up in Auckland – she still divides her time between the US and NZ.
Rachtman, who is best known as the music supervisor/executive soundtrack producer for several best-selling soundtracks, including: Pulp Fiction, Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge!, Boogie Nights, Reality Bites, Clueless, The Spongebob SquarePants Movie, The Rugrats Movie, Office Space, and Reservoir Dogs.
“The music is a real find – a song from Brazil from the ’70s that makes the spot even more memorable.”
At 15, she moved here to live with her American father Peter Rachtman, who was involved in US/NZ showbiz ventures. She attended fourth form at Takapuna Grammar.
Having opened her Mind Your Music New Zealand office, Rachtman considers herself to be in the “import/export” music business.
She recently hired New Zealand composers for three US-based productions, including two Netflix series, and the soundtrack for E-Line Media’s Beyond Blue, a new globally popular video game.
In the last year, she has worked on four New Zealand productions. Leveraging her extensive relations worldwide, she was able to acquire hard-to-get, classic hit songs that the Kiwi filmmakers never imagined they could possibly afford.
Summer Never Sleeps is rolling out across TV, digital, social, out of home and PR in NZ and Australia until 19 November.
