AUCKLAND, Today: Phantom Billstickers turns 40 this year and they’re throwing a party at the Longroom in Ponsonby on Thursday 3 November to celebrate.

“There’s a lot to celebrate,” says ceo Robin McDonnell. “Phantom is Aotearoa’s longest-established outdoor advertising company by a country mile.

“Late one night in 1982, Jim Wilson walked out into the Christchurch cold with a bundle of posters, a bucket of paste and a brush.

“Years of experience in the live music business had taught him the value of street posters in attracting fans to gigs.

“His initiative paid off, and Phantom Billstickers was born. Four decades later, Phantom is still locally owned and we’re all still passionate about helping bands and brands connect with audiences.

“Phantom pioneered the modern street poster industry with leased sites, individually framed posters, weatherproof posting, real-time verified reporting and were the first outdoor advertising company in New Zealand to gain Toitu Enviromark Carbon Zero status.

“On the night we’ll be pouring a Phantom APA from our mates at Panhead that will only be available on the night – and a guest list of the characters that have made Phantom tick over the past 40 years promises a good time.

“There will also be plenty of embarrassing photos of younger versions of ourselves and decent swag for guests to take home and remember the occasion.

“The venue has limited capacity so if you’ve been part of our journey over the past 40 years make sure you RSVP.”
