TBWA\NZ and ANZ have joined forces with comedian Dai Henwood and Warner Bros. Discovery for a unique initiative that aims to bring humour into the fight against cancer on Daffodil Day.
In a collective effort to raise both awareness and vital funds for the Cancer Society, the event titled ‘ANZ Presents: The Comedy Treatment’ will showcase a live stand-up comedy performance set to air on Three and Three Now on Thursday, August 24 at 8.30pm.
Created in partnership between TBWA\NZ, ANZ and Warner Bros. Discovery, the show will be fronted by comedian Dai Henwood. Henwood announced his own stage four bowel cancer diagnosis earlier this year and since then has accessed counselling services for him and his family through the Cancer Society.
The prime time live comedy special will also feature Ben Hurley, Paul Ego, Chris Parker, Josh Thomson, Mel Bracewell and Justine Smith, who will be using comedy to help break down the barriers around cancer in a way that has rarely been done before.
TBWA\NZ has also created a series of social and digital content pieces featuring Dai and 7 Days comedy partner, Jeremy Corbett to highlight the services offered by the Cancer Society and raise awareness of the show. The campaign also features OOH.
“Comedy is often used to make tough conversations easier, so having Dai and the other amazing comics for the Cancer Society and Daffodil Day feels particularly relevant,” says Shane Bradnick, TBWA\NZ CCO. “We want to thank Dai, working with him and Discovery has allowed us to talk about a subject that people feel uncomfortable talking about.
“The Cancer Society does incredible work supporting cancer patients and their families, it’s been a pleasure finding a new way to help raise awareness and donations for this year’s Daffodil Day,” adds Bradnick.
‘ANZ Presents: The Comedy Treatment’ will be central to this, with text-to-donate and QR code prompts throughout the show, one minute stories highlighting the Cancer Society’s services and the replaying of the TBWA\NZs TVC for the Cancer Society ‘We Never Stop’ during the ad breaks.
Matt Pickering, General Manager Marketing at ANZ says this has been a special project to work on. “The partnership with Dai and our approach has brought something unique and new to our support of Daffodil Day
“Dai has been very open and generous with his story, and we hope that together this will help raise money for Kiwis going through cancer. And raise a little laughter too”.
The Cancer Society’s annual fund-raising event has been supported by ANZ since its founding 33 years ago.
The Comedy Treatment will be broadcast on Three and Three Now , at 8:30pm Thursday, August 24.
