The call for entries for the 2024 AXIS Awards is now live and the Comms Council is gearing up to shine a spotlight on work that inspires and motivates the industry.
Josh Moore, AXIS 2024 Convenor of Judges, says Awards play an important role in making the industry strive “for better”.
“This sense of ‘better’ is not restricted purely to matters of creativity. Given the privileged position in which we find ourselves, as gentle influencers on the world around us, we should increasingly be concerned with the broader impacts of advertising. Better, in this sense, encompasses outcomes on the world around us resulting from our work.”
He says the AXIS presents an opportunity to celebrate and seek out work that moves the industry forward.
“Change is all around us. It’s throughout our industry and throughout our lives; cultural change, climate change, the very way we go about our jobs is changing, and of course, what we at Axis consider a great idea changes every six months. So to celebrate and embrace change, we’ve made some significant changes to AXIS, the first of many we should aspire to. The intent is to build a philosophy of progress into the show, pushing for better every year.”
This year the Awards will feature some changes as well including a new trophy, a new award name, and a revamped show.
The new trophy is made from recycled materials, designed and 3D printed locally, and leans at 23.5 degrees which is the same angle the axis of the earth leans at as it orbits the sun.
“Our new trophy therefore becomes an ever-present reminder of the need to top the balance of our ideas in favour of the planet we inhabit. The Earth revolves around an axis. AXIS should aspire to revolve around the earth,” says Moore.
The Grand Axis has also been renamed to Idea of the Year to be in line with Agency of the Year. “Agency of the Year is now an entered category, identifying the best body of work from each agency, making the award equitable for all agencies. A new category to embrace and celebrate creativity in retail. Simplification of categories to streamline the awards.”
The show has evolved to build on the carbon emissions measurement that was conducted in 2023. Now this baseline has been established, the Comms Council is planning on delivering a night of celebrations with less emissions.
“Let’s celebrate the best work that has been produced this year, showcasing the work that can inspire us all to tip the balance to better.”
