Phoenix spreads its wings for a more expansive Wellington

WELLINGTON, Friday: With the new Auckland FC announcement this Thursday, Wellington Phoenix has teamed up with Quantum Jump for a special reminder. They want to highlight their importance to New Zealand football, especially before their upcoming game in Auckland this Saturday.

They’re launching a campaign to extend Greater Wellington’s borders up to just north of Whangārei. The idea? Making sure future Auckland matches are still on home ground. And, they’re eyeing the Kerikeri Sports Complex for the new Auckland FC squad.

“When the border is moved, our fans in the Far North would only have to make a short trip down State Highway One to be in Wellington and support the Phoenix,” said Phoenix general manager David Dome.

“It’s fair to say Auckland doesn’t have a great track record in professional football, unlike Wellington.” – David Dome

“It’s fair to say Auckland doesn’t have a great track record in professional football, unlike Wellington,” said Phoenix general manager David Dome. The goal? Keeping Phoenix games in Auckland as home games, amidst a sea of local fans.

“Quantum Jump have given us a great boost for this Saturday’s game,” said Phoenix marketing manager Emma Rogers. The team is excited about the growing support and media buzz around their border-moving campaign.

“We’re passionate about football here at QJ,” commented Ben Goodale, Quantum Jump CEO. They’re all in, supporting Phoenix and the spirit of Kiwi football, hoping for a little ‘bend it like Beckham’ magic to shift the border.

“Sure, calling for the New Zealand Government to move the Wellington border more than 700 kilometres up State Highway 1 is a wee bit cheeky,” says Wayne Pick, Creative Partner. But it’s all about ensuring fans, wherever they are, stay connected to the club.

The campaign marches on…
