AUCKLAND, Today: Get to know the faces behind the camera in Reel Factory’s spotlight series, featuring director Laura Sargisson.
In an alternate universe, Laura ‘Sarge’ Sargisson would be an aspiring DOP, had it not been for a chance encounter with her university art lecturer.
Hailing from Ashburton, completing a Masters in Documentary Filmmaking in Dunedin, and now calling Auckland home, Laura’s career began with doco-style content. She cut her teeth in the industry as a jack-of-all-trades, directing, producing, filming, and editing her own projects.
Known for her knack in finding talent through unconventional methods, Laura excels when working with real people, especially kids. She creates an on-set environment where talent feels comfortable opening up and bringing their best, which shines through in her authentic, relatable commercials.
An avid sports fan, film aficionado, and provider to miniature cavoodles Chilli and Margie (an insight into her cocktail of choice), Laura’s work reflects her diverse interests and dynamic approach to storytelling.
Discover how Laura’s unique vision and innovative techniques have positioned her as a standout director in media and advertising, and learn about the highlights and lessons from her journey into the Director’s chair.
