NZ Autocar magazine has a new owner, after being sold to Auto Media Group. The new ownership structure will see well-known industry publisher Richard Edwards take the wheel.
Edwards is a seasoned journalist with over 25 years of experience, primarily in the automotive trade, with recent specialisation in vehicle electrification.
NZ Autocar will retain its editorial independence under the leadership of Kyle Cassidy, who continues as editor. Existing partner and general manager Gavin Shaw will also remain in place, ensuring continuity and stability in the management of the magazine.
Mark Petch, founder of NZ Autocar, will depart as part of the transition.
Edwards says: “NZ Autocar is a trusted and iconic brand in New Zealand, and we are thrilled to bring it into our broader portfolio. This acquisition will allow both brands to make use of their strengths and continue providing leading coverage to New Zealand’s automotive sector.”
“I am particularly eager to build on its excellent digital platform, the most popular independent vehicle news and review site in the country, with a strong video offering I believe will appeal to enthusiasts, vehicle shoppers and our commercial clients,” says Edwards.
“My team has some great ideas on new content that will have both reader and commercial appeal.”
Gavin Shaw says the new ownership will ensure longevity of the magazine, especially in the digital space. “Being part of the Auto Media Group will strengthen the magazine in the long term. I look forward to working with Richard and taking the magazine into the next chapter of its history.”
