Dunedin residents will now be able to roll the dice on their very own Dunedin Monopoly board.
Following the limited release last year of a custom Monopoly game that covered the entire Otago region, this special edition focuses entirely on Dunedin and all that makes it unique.
Dale Hackett from Winning Moves, the makers of custom Monopoly boards and the official Dunedin Monopoly, says, “We’ve loved celebrating these incredible New Zealand cities over the years and Dunedin felt like the natural next location to get its own Monopoly board. We’ve put so much work into getting to know the town, the people and their favourite spots to make it a board that really honours Dunedin and shines a light on what makes it iconic. We think it will make a great addition to everyone’s family game night roster – especially in time for the holiday season.”
After months of collaboration with locals, the Dunedin Monopoly properties are ready to be revealed. The custom-themed squares are:
Brown 1 – Dunedin Botanic Garden, Wild Dunedin Festival of Nature
Light Blue 1 – Brighton Beach, Aramoana Beach, Tunnel Beach
Pink 1 – St Clair Saltwater Pool, Te Aka Otakou (The Otago Vine), Forsyth Barr Stadium
Orange – Monarch Wildlife Cruises, The OPERA – Otago Peninsula Eco Restoration Alliance, Royal Albatross Centre
Red – Middlemarch, Port Chalmers, Mosgiel
Yellow – Patti’s & Cream, Otago Farmers Market, Emerson’s Brewery
Green – Kings High School, Tuhura Otago Museum, University of Otago
Dark Blue – Dunedin Railway Station, Larnach Castle
Travel – Castle Street, Baldwin Street, George Street, The Octagon
Join Mr Monopoly and a range of local representatives and businesses today at the official launch at the Dunedin Railway Station at 10am.
“Ōtepoti Dunedin is a charming city rich in heritage, renowned for its wildlife and distinctly quirky character. From the rugged beauty of our coastlines to the Otago Farmers Market, and the iconic Larnach Castle – I’m delighted everyone can experience and enjoy our city on a customised Monopoly board,” says Dunedin Mayor, Jules Radich.
“I’m really looking forward to playing with whānau and friends and enjoying all the special landmarks that make our city so unique.”
