Whangārei on the move: New bike docks meet digital ads

AUCKLAND, Today: oOh!media New Zealand is thrilled to roll out 10 innovative advertising panels connected to five new Locky Dock locations in Whangārei, answering the call for increased micro mobility solutions in New Zealand’s northernmost city.

This expansion is part of oOh!media’s broader strategy to lead the way in integrating advertising with public infrastructure, enhancing community services nationwide while opening new marketing avenues for reaching elusive audiences.

In collaboration with Big Street Bikers, creators of the Locky Docks, this project promotes cycling by providing complimentary secure bike parking and charging facilities. Already a hit in cities like Auckland and Christchurch, the network supports sustainable urban travel at no cost to the public.

With a strong start, the new assets are making an impact, engaging over 31,559 locals weekly—68% of Whangārei’s population—generating over 880,000 contacts and 2.2 million impressions.

Building on the success of their ongoing collaboration with Big Street Bikers since 2023, this initiative combines Locky Docks with digital advertising panels to connect with consumers in high-traffic areas while promoting a more sustainable future.

Cleve Cameron, founder of Big Street Bikers & Locky Docks, shares, “Our partnership with oOh!media, Mercury, and the Whangārei District Council has been invaluable in providing affordable transport options to Whangārei and proving our unique model as we expand our network across the country.
