Give Me Babies, the action-comedy with a big heart (and an even bigger punch), has won Best Comedy at the New Zealand Television Awards late last month.
Part of TVNZ’s Motherhood Anthology series, the film was brought to life by Auckland-based production company Eyes & Ears. It was co-created by Director Calvin Sang and Writer Ankita Singh (of Oriental Maidens), with Briar Collard serving as Executive Producer.
The story delivers laughs, heart, and a few bruises, following the wild ride of a young MMA fighter battling in an illicit underground match to earn enough cash to escape New Zealand—and her Mum’s relentless baby demands.
Briar Collard reflected on the win, saying, “To have been nominated among some personal favourites in the NZ comedy genre was an honour in itself, but to come out with the win is utterly surreal. I’m endlessly grateful for everyone that lent us their talents and energy to bring the production to life.”
Give Me Babies is streaming now on TVNZ+, offering audiences a hilarious and action-packed ride that’s as much about family and culture as it is about fighting in the ring.
