AUCKLAND, Tuesday: Rainger & Rolfe and Tilt Digital have teamed up with the Commerce Commission to help NZ businesses better understand the new cartel laws.
From April 2021, cartel conduct – such as price fixing or dividing up markets with a competitor – will be punishable by up to seven years’ jail time.
The campaign is targeted at SMEs where Kiwis running a business might not know what can get them into trouble, and how serious it is.
The campaign depicts a pair of building company owners colluding over prices, and two real estate agents dividing up their market either side of “Main Road”, so they no longer compete for listings.

“We wanted to create a campaign that was relatable,” says Rainger & Rolfe CD Chris Long. “But it was also important to drive home how business owners need to think carefully about cartel behaviour.”
John Schofield of Tilt Media planned the digital media strategy to reach SME’s in the places they’re used to getting their news.
He said it was key to make sure Kiwi business people don’t have to go hunting for this important information.
