AUCKLAND, Tuesday: In an evening of well-overdue celebration, the marketing industry came together last night to recognise the next-level marketing initiatives at the 2020 TVNZ-NZ Marketing Awards.
NZ Marketing magazine in partnership with the Marketing Association presented awards in 28 categories across sector, excellence and individual divisions.
This year’s awards – now in their 29th year – played out to a packed audience at the Cordis Auckland – themed to the night with bold colours and brave performances.
Taking home the Supreme Awards as well as Financial/Banking Sector Award was Sharesies for its Shares Made Easy campaign, which the judges said: “Translated a business objective into great market engagement with differentiated positioning, effectively transforming the local market.
”Sharesies has increased accessibility, awareness and participation in investing – drawing in new audiences, through a well-considered marketing strategy leveraging a strong digital media campaign.”
Other big winners were Lotto CMO Annemarie Browne, and J H Whittaker brand manager Liv Glazebrook, who took home the Marketer and Young Marketer of the Year Awards respectively.
“We have been witness to those who created marketing stories of strategic brilliance, creative excellence and impressive commercial results.”
The judges said of Browne’s win: “Annemarie has demonstrated to the judges that she is an exceptional marketing leader with the right skills and competencies, leading a solid high-performing marketing team.
“She is very generous with her time and energy across the marketing community and would make a wonderful role model for any young marketer to aspire to.”
Of Glazebrook, the judges said: “Liv is a passionate marketer who is able to clearly articulate across marketing performance from creative and NPD to sales and financials.
“She brings innovation and new thinking to the table, is a strong brand ambassador and good fit for Whitaker’s.”
The night also recognised marketing legend Phillip Mills of Les Mills International who was inducted into the Marketing Hall of Fame for his career-long success in brand and communications strategy at Les Mills.
NZ Marketing ed David Nothling-Demmer said: “More than building neatly designed and aligned creative messaging, this year we sought out marketing initiatives that are pioneering, and marketers who are taking things to the Next Level through innovative thinking and out-of-the-box solutions.
“The night also recognised marketing legend Phillip Mills who was inducted into the Marketing Hall of Fame.”
“I think that all of our winners exemplify these qualities, and collectively demonstrate that New Zealand marketing is well-placed to take on any challenges.”
MA ceo John Miles said his organisation loves celebrating the success of New Zealand’s marketers, “and these awards is the pinnacle of this celebration.
“We have been witness to that tonight and those who have created marketing stories of strategic brilliance, creative excellence and impressive commercial results.
“Of course, we can’t run these awards without the support of our judges, including convenor Michael Friedberg. The vast knowledge and experience brought to the judging process by this outstanding panel of the country’s leading marketing professionals and business leaders underpins the integrity of these awards”
