AUCKLAND, Today: The duo behind Newton-based indie agency Crave Global have created a novel campaign for their new ‘experimental’ bar, Thursday, which opens tomorrow (Thursday!) at 224 Symonds St.
Membership and admission is free, with only 200 members allowed at any time and a strict engagement policy that means if a member fails to come to the bar for two straight months their membership is revoked.
Crave MD Daniel Hopkirk & creative impresario Hadleigh Averill said: “This new place to be in Auckland looks set to offer a playful haven for creative individuals and their friends.”
The bar is open to members and their guests every Thursday, and then can be booked out as a venue on other nights of the week by members only.
Hopkirk: “Patrons can enjoy a personalised service thanks to the bar’s top-shelf concierge service, as well as dedicated lock boxes for storing their own unique bottles.
“Membership is by application via the website, with each applicant asked to respond to a playful creative task that changes each month. Each member can nominate one person to become a member on joining, with membership granted when available.”
Nights in the underground bar promise the thrill of the unexpected, thanks to Averill & Hopkirk who have forged a reputation for creating some of the most memorable party nights in NZAU.
“Patrons are protected by the bar’s no-whispers policy, and a strict no-phones and no-photos rule.

Hopkirk: “We want to create a central destination where our friends, clients and industry colleagues can let their hair down, mingle with like-minded creatives, and share ideas and inspiration.
“The bar offers us a unique incubator for trialling new things on-premise, which our clients are keen to explore with us.”
Creative impresario Hadleigh Averill, was a contemporary performance artist before the world of advertising lured him in.
An early adopter of real-time gamification techniques and immersive live events, Averill said: “I am excited about the potential the bar has for being a creative playground that will be shaped by our membership.
“There is a constant nagging drive to be innovative and push boundaries and I am looking forward to having creative freedom to treat our guests to excessive and unexpected experiences.”
