After 10 “epic” years at George FM, popular long-time host Kara Rickard announced on-air this morning that she will be leaving her role with the Breakfast team.
Rickard says: “This year I celebrated 10 years at George FM, and what an epic 10 years it’s been. I truly believe that George is the best station in the world with the best team and the best listeners but I’ve decided that it’s time for a change and this year will be my last.
“George has been my home away from home since forever so I’m definitely feeling all the feels about leaving but I’m excited about the new TV and broadcasting opportunities in front of me next year. Thank you for listening and sharing your stories with me over the last 10 years. I love and appreciate you more than you know.”
George FM Content Director Dean Campbell says: “From her early days as a newsreader to stepping up to host George Drive and then George Breakfast for many years, Kara is a George legend who will be missed. It’s exciting to see what’s next for her… and meanwhile, Lee and Tammy will keep the bangers and bants cranking on George Breakfast!”
Leon Wratt, MediaWorks Director of Content – Radio, adds: “Kara is a terrific broadcaster and has been a major part of the George FM whānau over the past 10 years. On behalf of MediaWorks, I’d like to thank her for all her hard work.”
Rickard’s last day on George FM Breakfast will be Friday 18 December.
