AUCKLAND, Friday: Clemenger Group NZ, with 44 Effies finalists between Colenso BBDO and Clemenger BBDO Wellington, top the shortlist leaderboard, announced today. DDB Aotearoa and Special Group have 15 finalists each.
Colenso has 24 finalists; Clemenger has 20. In total, there are 115 finalists across 20 categories
Also in the picture are Dentsu, EightOne, VMLY&R, The Research Agency, Motion Sickness, OMD Wellington, Saatchi & Saatchi, Pitchblack, TBWA, M&C Saatchi, HeyYou, Mango, FCB, Contagion, Wavemaker, Shine, and one Aussie finalist – VCCP Sydney.
The advertising and marketing industry’s pre-eminent award ceremony is drawing closer, as the first round of judging for the 2021 Effie Awards in association with TVNZ is completed and finalists are announced. (See finalist list attached).
Covid permitting, the winners will be unveiled at an awards dinner in Auckland in October or November (date TBA)
A panel of 120 industry peers judged the preliminary round online during lockdown. The category judging follows early next month (October).

The judges (only two of whom are agency professionals) leading the final selection rounds are:
- Jonathan Waecker – Chief Customer Officer at The Warehouse Group
- Sarah Williams – Head of Brand, Communications, and Experience at Spark
- Luke Rive – Director or Marketing at McDonald’s
- Jonathan Symons – Director at TVNZ
- Helen Fitzsimons – Head of Brand Marketing at Sky
- David Thomason – FCB Brand Planner and Advertising Strategist
- Lisa Divett – Executive Strategy Director at Clemenger BBDO
- Lauren Cooke – Senior Manager at NZTA.
All Gold Effie category winners will be eligible for the Grand Effie® sponsored by TVNZ, which is awarded to the campaign that achieved the most extraordinary commercial results for its client.
Winners and finalists will be celebrated and awarded at an awards dinner in Auckland October/November Date TBA.
