Creative Lead Designer – Auckland – Salary $110-120k

This is a successful, fast-paced, results driven mid-sized independent creative services agency that specialises in branded retail, located in Auckland. You are a highly collaborative hands-on design leader tasked with improving the quality of the creative outputs of the agency and able to deliver great work themselves. 

Primary responsibility is for the design and creative aspects of projects and campaigns, including developing the overall concept/design and overseeing or working on projects through to completion ensuring that the final product matches original concepts. 

The position combines conceptual development and graphic design, with production outputs along with a responsibility for creating and executing advertising concepts, campaign designs and ideas across all media.

A key attribute will be the ability to work with speed and accuracy, demonstrating a high level of attention to detail, interpreting briefs quickly, with strong communication skills to rationalise design decisions/directions. Part of the responsibility is leading our designers and artworkers in creating great work.

The ideal candidate will be a positive, bright, imaginative, collaborative senior creative designer who is highly experienced, along with a track record of creating and producing great ideas and designs for retail marketers and brands, and you can confidently lead and inspire others to do the same. You are a natural leader who can bring the team on the ride.

Core Responsibilities and Role

  • Create and design all the various marketing communication elements including campaign theme development, the creation and design of various campaign elements through to final file outputs and artwork 
  • Collaborates internally to help conceptualize and execute creative solutions that can be translated across various media platforms
  • Communicate and facilitate creative/design deliverables and produce the necessary content and elements for a range of media including print, digital, EDMs, and retail TV/videos for our diverse range of clients and brands. Retail catalogues and mailers are an important part of studio workflows
  • Work in partnership with the Client Service team in helping drive and lead the overall standards of creative, design and campaign content deliverables across a range of clients, and large and small projects 
  • Create and submit all project deliverables within the agreed deadlines and budgets.
  • Responsible for the overall quality, proofing and accuracy of their own and others work
  • Resolving issues and provide guidance and decisions on workflow priorities and assist in the delegation of briefs with the Studio Lead and Client Service

Required Skills

  • A creative thinker with excellent conceptual and design skills and a strong sense of good visual design, layout, and typography
  • Experienced working in the retail advertising and/or graphic design sector is preferred/essential
  • A broad thinker who can offer a variety of design/creative solutions and ideas for clients.
  • Ability to write copy for campaign content if required eg; edms, catalogue headlines and call outs, digital/social content copy, retail radio ads and TVCs
  • Well organized in problem solving, excellent time-management skills 
  • A self-starter, able to work in a fast-paced team environment and can take projects from start to finish with minimal supervision
  • Works within the agency’s processes and systems 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Fast and efficient. Works to tight deadlines in a team environment 
  • Adaptable and a quick learner. Must be able to apply style guides creatively while upholding brand identity for multiple clients 
  • Expert knowledge in the graphic design and production processes and software incl Adobe Creative Suite, a Drop Box environment or similar, and pre-press apps ideally eg Page Proof.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and take guidance and direction 
  • Maintain a proactive, can-do attitude in problem solving, where each design project is not seen in isolation, but as part of the ‘bigger picture’ of client’s advertising campaigns and graphic/ design projects
