MPA names new Executive Director

Johanna Cotter will take up the role of Executive Director at the Magazine Publishers Association in January 2022.

Cotter is a media and data sales expert with an impressive CV spanning senior roles in sales, partnership management and business development. Most recently she has worked as Digital Product Manager at ReachMedia, a data-driven marketing company.

Her job as ED will be to bring the MPA’s mission to life, celebrating the inspiration and effectiveness of magazine brands and their impact across multiple platforms and touchpoints.

“Magazine media has weathered a lumpy ride in the last 18 months, but the green shoots came through and now with more titles in the market than ever, publishers are enjoying growth in engagement from readers, retailers and advertisers alike. across all of our channels,” says MPA chair Nicholas Burrowes.

“We are excited to have Johanna join the MPA as our Executive Director. Johanna has a solid knowledge of the wider gamut of media through digital, outdoor, TV and print, and from corporate settings to start-up businesses. These are all great attributes for understanding and reflecting our MPA members in the market.”

Cotter says she is looking forward to championing some of the best NZ journalism and content to equally engaged readers and digital audiences.

“The NZ magazine industry is in a vibrant and  exciting place right now, with increased engagement across printed titles and digital content.”

Cotter takes over from Sally Duggan, who has been in the ED role for three years.
