Cresta climate change comp tackles humanity’s greatest challenge

LONDON, Monday: Cresta Awards ceo Lewis Blackwell has written personally to M+AD, seeking Kiwi entries for their new global Climate Challenge competition.

“We’ve launched a global competition for young creatives,” he wrote. “It’s free to enter and aims to get the next generation of creative stars to show us their best in aid of fighting climate change inactivism.

“It would be great to see good entries from New Zealand.

“The initiative is looking to highlight emerging creative talents while harnessing their abilities in tackling climate change ‘inactivism’.”

The entry site offers separate cash prizes for creatives under 26, or for students in full-time education. It is now open for submissions with a closing date of Tuesday 29 March.

“Communication skills and creativity have a vital part to play in challenging climate change inertia.”

“We’re delighted to be able to present this free competition for young creatives to show their passion and talent around such a vital issue as tackling climate change,” Blackwell said.

“Communication skills, and creativity have a vital part to play in challenging climate change inertia and deliberate inactivism in societies around the world. We all have a part – a responsibility – to take on what is probably the biggest challenge humanity has ever faced.”

Over coming weeks more details will be released on the jury, a mix of leading creatives and environmental experts, along with other partners. Blackwell, an award-winning writer and creative director, including multiple books and exhibitions on the environment, will be one of the jurors.

“There is both an ethical and creative need to engage.

“And the Cresta Climate Challenge gives the younger generation of creatives a chance to drive hard to be at the forefront of that change.”
