AUCKLAND, Friday: Bella Rakete and Sam Taunton Clarke took out the Google Student Axis Award last night for Breast Cancer Captcha.
The brief challenged students to pick a brand at a NZ agency and come up with an idea that uses Google technology and/or real estate to express the brand’s purpose in an innovative way.
Out of 35 ideas submitted by MDS and AUT students for the first round of judging, 12 finalists from MDS and eight from AUT made it through to the second round of judging. The second round of judging whittled those 20 ideas down to a final shortlist of three.
“12 finalists from MDS and eight from AUT made it through to the second round.”
MDS creative advertising programme director Kate Humphries said: “Now junior creatives at Special, Sam and Bella had two ideas shortlisted in the final three for the award.
“That was a hard-won achievement in itself, so it was both a relief and a delight to see them taking out the actual award.”
“Tēnā koutou to James Wooton from the Comms Council for organising the competition; the Google Student Axis Judging Panel of Haydn Kerr (DDB Aotearoa), Courtney Dow (DDB Aotearoa), Nina East (Ogilvy), Chris Schofield (Pitchblack Partners), and Josh Reiri-Allen (Google) for their two rounds of judging, and to the 2022 Axis Executive Judging Panel for the final round.
“We’d also like to send out a big cheer to MDS alumni Lily Macintosh & Maisie D’Cruz from DDB Group Aotearoa for taking out the Emerging Talent Award at Axis this year.”
