GroupM New Zealand has named Christophe Spencer as Chief Digital Officer to lead digital, technology and transformation as the group evolves its proposition and shapes the next era of media.
With more than 20 years’ experience in technology, data, media and strategy across New Zealand, France and the UK, Spencer joins from PHD to take on a newly created role at GroupM. He is charged with delivering digital and technology consultation, enhancing capability, and developing GroupM’s media sustainability strategy.
He will lead GroupM’s digital services, performance marketing and specialist business units, including influencer marketing platform INCA, programmatic platform Xaxis, Social and Search, and provide digital and tech consultancy.
Chris Riley, GroupM New Zealand CEO, says: “Christophe is one of the region’s finest leaders. His ambitions and values really align with ours, so we are thrilled to welcome him into the GroupM family. Christophe is a strategic thinker, with a unique ability to intimately understand a complex problem and articulate a clear solution for clients. His experience building digital, data and technology teams, evolving the agency proposition and delivering transformation projects for clients make him a perfect fit GroupM NZ.
“He will play a critical role, as we bring our vision to life and aim to shape the next era of media, where advertising works better for people. We know he will make a significant impact to our clients, people and partners.”
This newly created role will see Spencer working closely with GroupM’s Trading & Investment, Data & Technology specialists across MediaCom, Wavemaker and Mindshare, to bring world-leading expert digital capability and advanced technology solutions to our clients.
Spencer says: “GroupM’s ambition, globally and here in New Zealand, is incredibly impressive and the capability across the network is second to none. This, coupled with their rich heritage in technology innovation, makes me excited about the opportunity ahead. I am grateful for the 13 years I have had at PHD. It’s been a privilege to be a part of such a well-regarded business. I look forward to joining Chris and the GroupM team to continue to build a leading digital proposition that helps brands solve business problems with innovation, and thrive in a period of considerable change.”
Spencer was previously Chief Digital Officer at PHD New Zealand. He joins GroupM on June 14 and will report into CEO Chris Riley.
