New Zealand and Australian news organisations have the opportunity to up-skill for free thanks to a series of online digital skills workshops launched as part of Google News Initiative’s Digital Growth Programme.
News Business Fundamentals is a six-part series of live and on-demand online digital skills training workshops offered exclusively to Australasia news businesses and aims to help these organisations succeed online.
Chris Burgess, Google News Partner Manager, says the series is designed specifically to meet the high demand for digital training from small, medium, regional and hyperlocal publishers across Australia and New Zealand.
“This programme provides an introduction to many of the core skills required to run a digital news business, based on the best practices and lessons of other news publishers around the world.
“Many news publishers in Australia and New Zealand, whether they’re coming from a traditional media background or were born in the digital age, are looking to grow their digital businesses. These workshops are designed specifically for business owners and other staff at small, mid-sized and regional news organisations who are interested in leading or accelerating digital growth.”
Registration and participation is free and the workshops will cover the fundamentals of news publishing on the web, including optimising websites to increase traffic to news coverage, strategies to identify, grow and engage digital audiences, getting started in digital advertising, building and strengthening digital subscriptions or contributions revenue, and developing an overall digital strategy.
