2022 NZ Radio Awards winners unveiled

AUCKLAND, Today: The winners of the 2022 New Zealand Radio Awards have been announced from an awards ceremony at Sky City Theatre in Auckland with the industry watching from screens around the country.

The show was presented by Māni Dunlop (RNZ), Robert Rakete (MediaWorks) and Stacey Morrison (NZME).

NZ Radio Awards chairman, Jana Rangooni said: “It is great to be able celebrate the work of so many talented people across the industry tonight.

“New Zealand has one of the most diverse and competitive radio landscapes in the world which is one of the reasons our radio stations stay so relevant to the daily lives of listeners. All the industry deserves credit for that, as well as last night’s winners.


  • ZM has taken out the Best Network Team Show with ZM’s Fletch, Vaughan & Megan.
  • ZM won the Blackie Award.
  • More FM Northland claimed the award for Best Local Team Show
  • The Rock’s Day (and a bit) on the Darts won ‘Best Community Campaign.
  • Heather du Plessis-Allan from Newstalk ZB was awarded Best Talk Presenter–Breakfast or Drive.
  • For the sixth consecutive year, Marcus Lush from Newstalk ZB was the winner of the Best Talk Presenter–Non-Breakfast or Drive category.
  • Best News Story Team Coverage was won by Newstalk ZB for their story on Delta 2021.
  • Network Station of the Year is Newstalk ZB.
  • Local Station of the Year went to More FM Northland.
  • Outstanding Contribution to Radio was awarded to Brendan Smyth, formerly at NZ on Air, for his work on increasing the percentage of local music on commercial radio and Dame Hinewehi Mohi for her contribution to the significant increase in Te Reo Māori hit songs being played on New Zealand radio.
  • Mike Hosking was named Sir Paul Holmes Broadcaster of the Year for the third time.
  • Radio Hauraki won Best Podcast by a Radio Show.
  • The Hits won Best Client Promotion/Activation.
  • Gold AM (now Gold Sport) –took out an award for its coverage of the ICC World Test Championship.
  • NZME’s local Taranaki team was named Sales Team of the Year.
  • Best Music Host: Steph Monks from The Edge.
  • Services to Broadcasting: Kate Rigg, Bob Gentil, Owen Rooney.
  • Best Single Market Station Promotion: The Breeze jingle in Te Reo Māori.
  • Best Digital Content – Single Post: The Rock Network.
  • Associated Craft Award: MediaWorks Trade Marketing Team.

RBA ceo Jana Rangooni said: “This is the first time we have ever given the Outstanding Contribution to Radio Award to anyone working outside the actual industry and reflects the tremendous and lasting impact these two have had on how radio in New Zealand sounds.

“We are all richer for their vision and actions.”
