In a brilliant display of glitter, eyeliner, and money guns, nine agency bands took to the stage at Galatos last night, September 29, for the 13th annual Battle of the Ad Bands.
This year’s talent was second to none, but it was newcomers, DAYLIT, that took out the coveted BOTAB trophy.
Although the judging panel, Radio Hauraki’s Angelina Grey, Chris Key and Blair Huston from Fortis Travel were impressed by all of the performances, there could only be one winner. Daylight had the crowd “Come Together” with their bongo drums and tight vocal performance. Their set list included Come Together – The Beatles, Heart of Glass – Blondie/Miley Cyrus, and Sabotage – Beastie Boys.
For their efforts, DAYLIT took home a $ 100 Sal’s Pizza Voucher, a production run of their own bespoke ice cream flavour from Much Moore Ice-Cream, a $ 500 Lunch at Prego, a rental car for a month courtesy of Giltrap Group & SIXT, and the BOTAB trophy.
The judges were so impressed by the performances this year they also awarded Third and Second place winners along with the overall Best Performer. Both Third and Second place recipients will each be receiving a travel voucher up to the value of $ 500 thanks for Fortis Travel. Third place found its way to Joseph Hoskin from Jille & The Meat Lovers with Conal Wilson from AC/DDB picking up Second place.
Hype & the Dextones, Chelsea Parson’s was recognised as the Best Performer of the night. Her vocals and overall energy on stage was incredible. Chelsea’s performance has won her a travel voucher up to the value of $ 1000 thanks to Fortis Travel.
BOTAB was supported by Apex Insurance, Fortis Travel, Giltrap Group, Huffer, Much Moore, Coffee Supreme, Prego, Radio Hauraki, Sal’s Pizza, Red bull, SIXT, The Radio Bureau, and Whittaker’s.
BOTAB 2022 also supports MusicHelps, previously known as the New Zealand Music Foundation. Funds raised through a raffle on the night will go towards helping tens of thousands of Kiwis right across the country every year through music projects that change the lives of people in need.
