Dallas Gurney, MediaWorks Director of News and Talk, has announced he is resigning from his position and will leave the company in May.
Joining MediaWorks in September 2021, Gurney helped to build up the radio station Today FM and his announcement comes the day before the stations first birthday which was launched on March 21, 2022.
Newshub reported the resignation was announced to employees via an internal email from MediaWorks Interim CEO Wendy Palmer.
“I wanted to let you know that Dallas Gurney has resigned from his role as Director of News and Talk at MediaWorks and will be leaving the business in May,” the email was reported to have said. No successor has been named.
Before joining MediaWorks, Gurney held the positions of Editor-in-Chief and General Manager at Newstalk ZB and Radio Sport. He has been awarded 12 New Zealand Radio Awards throughout his career.
His resignation comes almost a month after MediaWorks CEO, Cam Wallace revealed he would be resigning from his role.
Wallace left the company in February, just weeks after MediaWorks, which owns radio brands such as Today FM, The Rock, The Breeze, and More FM, announced its plan to eliminate up to 90 positions in an effort to reduce costs. Wallace, a former Air New Zealand executive, led the company for two years.
