TradeCareers, in collaboration with BCITO Te Pūkenga and Waihanga Ara Rau Workforce Development Council, has unveiled a platform this week, in a move to dismantle diversity barriers within New Zealand’s trades industry.
Building Belonging is a multi-channel educational platform that strives to support people within the trades industry with hiring more diversely and creating safe workspaces for anyone. Covering topics from gender and cultural inclusion to ethical hiring practices and maternity leave, this platform leaves no topic untouched.
“Worksites can be a challenging place to be at the best of times, especially if you don’t fit the traditional mould. This project is a step towards all the work that needs to be done by speaking directly to the people who can make a difference,” says TradeCareers Project Manager Tess Waters.
Comprising of a six-part podcast and long-form film series hosted by chippys Genevieve Black and Chris Donnelly, each episode speaks to industry leaders to unpack the kinds of challenges they’re up against and the solutions we should be seeking.
Supported by a suite of social content and digital collateral, this project represents a significant commitment from the trades industry to pave the way for a more inclusive future and more open kōrero about the confronting parts of the job.
“This was such a meaningful body of work for our team to dive into and we look forward to continuing this mahi into the future,” says Daylight Creative Director Charlie Godinet.
