Special Design welcomes Clem Devine as Design Director

Award-winning creative agency Special Design, has made a significant addition to its team with the appointment of Clem Devine as the new Design Director.

With an impressive repertoire in brand design, spatial design, and strategic leadership, Devine injects a wealth of experience and a novel outlook into the agency. This announcement comes as Special Design celebrates 15 years of delivering creativity, innovation, and successful client collaborations.

Devine joins Special Design after a tenure at Jasmax — where he co-founded the brand design discipline. A prominent figure in the design industry, Devine’s work over the past 20 years has been widely recognised, including accolades from the Designers Institute of New Zealand Best Design Awards and the Australian Graphic Design Awards. He also played a pivotal role in the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki and Studio One – Toi Tū projects while at Alt Group.

“Becoming part of this award-winning multi-disciplinary creative agency, which I’ve admired for years, is a dream come true,” says Devine. “The ambition at Special to fuel creativity across a range of mediums is inspiring. I’m excited about the possibilities of building enduring value for our clients and their customers with our Design team”.

Devine joins Special Design at an exciting point for the agency, which has recently welcomed some exciting new business to its growing portfolio of long-standing clients and changemakers, such as ENZ and ecostore.

Heath Lowe, Co-Founder and Executive Design Director says: “We couldn’t be happier to welcome Clem to our team – we’ve been wanting to work together for years. It’s an exciting time to be combining our strengths with the talented Special team to bring rich ideas to life for our brand partners”.

“In today’s economic climate, it’s never been more important for brands to stand out and to stand for something. In welcoming Clem, we are investing in the type of design thinking that continues to push the boundaries of category and convention. His thoughtful, considered way of working across brand, spatial and experience design will be a great fit for our future-focused design clients.”

Based in the Auckland office, Clem has joined Special Design with immediate effect.
