Makeover for Prime TV

AUCKLAND, Thursday: Sky TV has rebranded its popular free-to-air channel Prime – and refreshed its overall offering. From next Wednesday 23 August it’ll be known as Sky Open.

The rebrand logo was created in-house.

Sky business director Ben Gibb said: “We look forward to bringing customers a new bold and distinctive channel identity, with some of the best sport, and local and international entertainment, including locally-produced shows, exclusive Sky Sport coverage, documentaries, and entertainment – all free.

“This is a really exciting time for Sky and we look forward to bringing customers a new bold and distinctive channel identity.”


“Sky Open will be the home of our free coverage for the Rugby World Cup in September and October – including the final, live.”


Sky Open will replace Prime on Sky channel 4 and Freeview channel 15, with Prime+1 changing to Sky Open+1 on Sky channel 514. Viewers will also be able to watch Sky Open live and catch up with programmes on demand via Sky Go, for free.

Ben Gibb: “Sky Open provides a clear link between our free-to-air channel and Sky masterbrand, enabling the channel to sit more clearly alongside our range of Sky products.

“The longstanding news show Prime News will become News First, at 5.30pm and will continue to share all the latest stories from Eric Young.

“Sky Open will be the home of Sky’s fta coverage for the Rugby World Cup 2023 in September and October, broadcasting 12 games from the tournament as well as regular highlight shows.

“The free matches include the opening match (All Blacks v France) live and the final live.”
