Warner Bros. Discovery has announced that Richard Sutherland has been appointed as interim Senior Director of News at Newshub, where he will be responsible for leading the newsroom and delivering high quality news on Three.
Glen Kyne, Senior Vice President, Networks, ANZ, WBD, says: “We’re very pleased to have Richard join us as interim Senior Director of News. Richard brings a vast array of skills and a deep understanding of both the local and global media landscape, and I’m excited to boost our newsroom talent even further with one of New Zealand’s most experienced journalists, producers, and media executives.”
With more than three decades of experience in television, radio, and online news operations, Richard most recently worked as Head of News at RNZ from 2019 until 2023. Previously, he was Head of Broadcast News at Three/Mediaworks, and is also the former chair of the Media Freedom Committee.
Richard added: “I’m stoked to be returning to the incredible team at Newshub. Leading a newsroom is a massive honour, and I don’t take on the responsibility lightly. Bringing engaging, world-class news to people around the country is a team effort, and I’m really looking forward to diving in.”
Richard starts at Newshub today, January 30. Recruitment is continuing to find a permanent person for the role.
