AUCKLAND, Today: Netsafe launches Hector’s World, a bilingual safety program for New Zealand kids aged 5-10, developed with Auckland’s Method. The program features animations in English and te reo Māori tackling cyberbullying and privacy.
It starts with three free episodes to prompt safe online discussions for over 400,000 children, with more episodes releasing weekly on Hector’s World’s website and YouTube.
Netsafe CEO Brent Carey highlights the urgent need for early digital education. “Up to 43% of parents do not actively monitor their children’s online interactions, and children aged 9 to 11 are unsure about safe information sharing,” he notes. Carey adds, “Hector’s World is a game changer for teaching good online rituals, early on.”

Sam Ramlu of Method explains the series aims to engage kids without being preachy, using relatable characters and humour. “We’re proud to reimagine this iconic series for today’s kids,” says Ramlu.
Supported by Microsoft New Zealand and the Ministry of Education, the series offers over 60 educational resources and features local voice actors to reflect New Zealand’s diverse culture.
The new Hector’s World aims to impact a new generation by building on its predecessor’s success.
