AUCKLAND, Today: The 2024 Whitcoulls Top 100 Books List has had a surprising 42% change, revealed today. Joan Mackenzie, Whitcoulls Book Manager, credits this to online communities and book influencers. Social media is boosting interest in new genres and local authors.

Series books are still a hit, with Sarah J. Maas’s A Court of Thorns and Roses topping the list. Rebecca Yarros’ Empyrean Series is second, and Lucinda Riley’s The Seven Sisters Series is third. The Edmonds Cookery Book returns at number four.

Local authors are shining, with 14 New Zealand writers making the Top 100. Mackenzie is thrilled to see both fiction and non-fiction talent recognised.

“It’s heartening to see both fiction and non-fiction local talent appear in the Top 100,” says Mackenzie.
