Print makes a comeback as NEWMARKET. magazine captures domestic tourists

AUCKLAND, Today: Digital marketing may be everywhere, but NEWMARKET. magazine is shaking things up. The Newmarket Business Association’s (NBA’s) luxury print publication is grabbing the attention of domestic tourists across New Zealand.

As Auckland’s top shopping hub, Newmarket is making its mark as New Zealand’s must-visit shopping spot. The NBA is doubling down on print media to draw in more tourists, a move that’s paying off. The Spring issue has seen impressive growth and popularity.

Launched nine years ago, NEWMARKET. magazine has secured its spot among New Zealand’s most widely distributed lifestyle magazines. The Spring issue alone increased its print run to 50,000 copies.

Produced by the NBA and printed by Webstar, the magazine is delivered to high-income households across New Zealand. Now, it’s expanding its reach to major centres like Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown, and Dunedin, with a $ 25 subscription service further boosting its audience.

This expansion is fuelled by rising interest from both consumers and businesses. Many businesses have successfully used the magazine to market their products locally, with reports of increased customer visits and inquiries. Readership has surged from 5,000 in 2015 to over 180,000 today.

“The magazine has attracted attention from both local and international brands and businesses.” – Mark Knoff-Thomas

The magazine’s growth is remarkable, evolving from a modest 28-page monthly into a 92-page seasonal showcase of premium fashion, local and international brands, beauty, travel, and more. It’s become a Vogue-esque platform, packed with insights from top business minds and opinion leaders.

Mark Knoff-Thomas, NBA’s Chief Executive, highlights the magazine’s role in promoting Newmarket and attracting domestic tourists.

“We’re really focused on showing domestic tourists that Newmarket is a must-visit spot. By putting out top-notch editorial content and stunning visuals, we’re showcasing the best that luxury and design in New Zealand has to offer – promoting the precinct has just been an amazing plus.

“From our high fashion editorial shoots, to thought-provoking opinion pieces by leading CEOs, and there’s even content for pets, it’s all about offering something engaging for everyone and, in doing so, supporting our local businesses.”

“Our nationwide expansion is a testament to the fact that Kiwis still crave high-quality, entertaining media that appeals to their interests, despite the widespread desire for short-form digital content,” he says.

With an emphasis on design and creativity, NBA ensures NEWMARKET. magazine is a visual treat. It’s more about enjoying a leisurely Sunday read over coffee than a quick skim.

“The magazine has attracted attention from both local and international brands and businesses, and its strong offerings have cemented Newmarket as the premier precinct for retail, hospitality and art, with a strong undercurrent of heritage and supporting local,” adds Knoff-Thomas.

“Print certainly isn’t dead, and we’re proud to play a small part in that ongoing media battle,” he adds.

The Spring issue of NEWMARKET. magazine hits shelves on August 13th, 2024.
