AUCKLAND, Today: The Sharma cinematic universe isn’t all rainbows and butterflies, as shown in ANZ’s latest spot by TBWA\NZ. Instead, it’s high drama, fitting for the cinema, where this spot runs as a switch off your phone reminder.
In the 30-second spot, we see Claire Sharma, the small-business owner and ANZ app champion, fleeing from her family home, leaving a disheveled Ravi behind. She jumps on a motorcycle with a mysterious leather-clad rider and rides off, but the reason isn’t clear.
Instead of dialogue, the ad features a nostalgic 90s ringtone that’s both memorable and annoying—a clever reminder to turn off your phone before the film begins.
“We wanted this short cinema spot to have intrigue and an amusing moment of drama while serving as a reminder to turn off your phone.” – Shane Bradnick

“We don’t yet know how it will all finish but I’m looking forward to hearing all the fan theories. They really are New Zealand’s favourite banking family,” says Shane Bradnick, CCO of TBWA\NZ.
ANZ’s General Manager of Marketing, Matt Pickering, agrees, “The cinema turn your phone off spot is a unique opportunity and with a captive audience it requires something special to make it work. A touch of drama with the Sharma family and I’m pleased to say the spot absolutely achieves that.”
