AUCKLAND, Today: Real-Time Reo aims to make te reo Māori a natural part of everyday life, marking a small yet meaningful step toward revitalising Aotearoa’s indigenous language.
A study in the Journal of Memory and Language found that when new vocabulary is learned in meaningful contexts, like phrases and sentences, retention is 60% higher than learning in isolation.
To support this, Motion Sickness teamed up with LUMO to create a custom dashboard that uses live data—such as weather, time of day, and news—to deliver timely phrases and translations, making every moment a learning opportunity.
From cold morning commutes to All Blacks game build-ups, the campaign adapts to real-time events, offering relevant te reo Māori phrases that fit the moment.
The campaign has been active during Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, running across LUMO’s digital network in Auckland, Wellington, Whangarei, and Tauranga.
