Last week, the Ministry of Social Development team were recognised for their mahi promoting safe and positive romantic and sexual relationships for young people at Te Hāpai Hapori, Spirit of Service Awards.
With just six awards given out each year, the Spirit of Service encompasses all areas of Government from advertising and marketing programmes to service delivery, to infrastructure, and technology.
At the ceremony, held in Wellington, the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) was thrilled to receive the Te Tohu Auaha Hou | Innovation Award for its Love Better campaign.
It is a highly coveted award that celebrates new approaches or technologies creating positive change.
The Public Service Commission said of the team and Love Better:
“The winner of this year’s Innovation Award is Love Better, a primary prevention campaign by Te Manatū Whakahiato Ora | Ministry of Social Development (MSD) aimed at fostering safe and positive romantic and sexual relationships amongst young people. The campaign took a radical new approach to disrupt and/or shift harmful discourses and behaviours around relationships that affect young people and successfully created a shift in knowledge and attitudes.”
Acting Public Service Commissioner Heather Baggot says what’s special about working in public service is that it’s often not about individual achievements.
“It’s about what we achieve together. This sense of community, of shared purpose, means we can tackle the toughest challenges and lift each other up along the way. And when we act together to drive for change and results, the ripple effects can be felt far and wide, from our biggest cities to the smallest towns and communities.”
Steve Dimakis, Managing Director OMD Wellington, adds, “So many people across MSD, Clemenger, OMD, FUSE and wider agency villages have worked on Love Better over the last two years. An amazing effort and congratulations to all involved.”
Jake Firman, Head of Strategy OMD Wellington, says. “The MSD team dedicate themselves to real change, day in day out. Bigs ups to their bravery and innovation.”
