TradeMe launches Only Fans hub to keep Kiwis satisfied this summer

TradeMe has launched its own ‘Only Fans’ – but don’t worry, it’s not what you think.

With summer in full swing and fan shortages of previous years top of mind, the online platform’s latest campaign has created a hub specifically for buying and selling free-standing, pocket-sized electric fans.

Trade Me Sales, Marketing and Support Director Sally Feinson says riffing off the exclusive content subscription service is a playful way to market the vast selection of new and used electric fans readily available on site.

“We all remember the great fan shortages in recent years when sweaty Kiwi were desperate to get their hands on something to cool down and were left hot and wanting.

“At Trade Me we want to be the first place Kiwi look, whether it’s for second-hand goods, a new car, job, home or a five-speed, rotating hand-held fan, of which we have something for everyone.”

To sit alongside the new Only Fans deals page on site, Trade Me has created a video to be rolled out across digital and social platforms.

Transforming pain points to humorous insights

Trade Me Senior Brand Manager Samuel Fullick says recent consumer research found Kiwi to be craving more playfulness from brands.

“This was our chance to transform the common pain point of ‘the great fan shortage’ into a humorous insight. We even used some member’s listing descriptions as inspiration.

“Playfulness has been at the heart of Trade Me’s DNA since day one, starting with founder Sam Morgan cheekily listing Trade Me on eBay for a $ 1 million buy-now price.

“We’re excited to be returning to our humorous roots, finding moments of joy and laughter with Kiwi.”
