ThreeNews updates team with new weather presenter and weekend anchor

AUCKLAND, Today: Laura Tupou, one of New Zealand’s beloved TV journalists, is gearing up for a new challenge. She’s diving into weather reporting for stuff.co.nz and ThreeNews as their new weather correspondent.

Starting next month, Laura will be seen nightly on ThreeNews and crafting stories for New Zealand’s top website. This shift follows her successful stint as a news reporter and weekend anchor.

Laura is thrilled to delve into weather reporting, a topic that resonates deeply with Kiwis. “I never shy away from a challenge – if anything I run towards them,” she says. With a major in environmental planning, her insights into climate change are robust.

Already familiar with the weather segment on ThreeNews, Laura has been presenting forecasts and showcasing weather photos from viewers. She understands the Kiwi passion for weather updates, especially given the increasing frequency of major weather events.

“It’s a hugely important role and is becoming more so with a higher frequency of major weather events. I’m stoked to be in people’s homes Monday to Friday and am ready to rise to the challenge.”

Meanwhile, Imogen Wells is set to take over Laura’s previous role as the weekend news anchor. After roles at Newshub and TVNZ, and hosting a daily news podcast at Stuff, Imogen is excited for her new position.

“I totally caught the bug so I cannot wait to get stuck into this new role. When I left Newshub and TV broadcasting two years ago, one of my producers told me I’d be back, and look where we are now!”
