Crypto ATM provider Localcoin has partnered with Jolly Billboards to launch a digital billboard campaign in Christchurch.
The site, located on the corner of Main South Road and Springs Road in Wigram, is one of the most high-profile, long dwell-time digital sites in the Christchurch market. It aims to drive clients to the nearest Localcoin BP ATM kiosk – with the billboard space paid for in Bitcoin.
The deal signals a new chapter in media buying, as crypto makes its way from digital wallets into the real-world economy, quite literally lighting up the streets, says Jolly Billboards.
Localcoin ATM leads the charge
Localcoin ATM allows everyday Kiwis to buy and sell cryptocurrency through its growing network of physical ATMs, now spanning major cities across the world and more than 100 sites in Aotearoa.
“We’re not just providing access to digital currency,” says Philip Plotnicki, marketing manager at Localcoin ATM.
“We’re helping bring it into the mainstream. Working with Jolly Billboards made perfect sense. They’re fast, flexible and forward-thinking. The process was seamless, and we’re looking forward to building on the advertising partnership.”
Jolly Billboards embraces innovation
Founded a little over four years ago, Jolly Billboards operates a network of both digital and classic billboard sites across New Zealand.
Jonathon Drumm, GM of Jolly Billboards, says the transaction was a glimpse into what’s coming next.
“Localcoin ATM have an incredibly future-focused model, and their proactive approach made this campaign happen in minutes.
“We’re excited to be part of something that could shape how media is actually transacted one to one in the years to come.
“Is there a Jolly coin in the works? Let’s just say we have our top men working on it,” Drumm adds.
A glimpse into the future of media buying
With crypto adoption growing globally, transactions like these are expected to become more common, says Drumm.
As businesses explore alternative payment rails, the billboard industry, long a symbol of traditional media, may become an unexpected but powerful testbed for innovation. In the words of both companies: this is just the beginning, he adds.
